A Rutherglen school has received a grant of almost £100,000 to enhance pupil experiences within expressive arts.
St Columbkille’s were awarded £96,000 from the Clore Duffield Foundation, with the money going towards specialised teaching and attending live performances to enhance pupil’s cultural experiences.
Acting Head Teacher Collette Watson said: “We were delighted to receive this money from the foundation and we have already put some of it to good use.
“A series of six-week blocks delivered by specialists from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in the areas of drama, dance, art and music began earlier this year and the children have been loving those sessions.
“We also attended a performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, have been to Kelvingrove Art Galleries and have many more events planned throughout the rest of this year and beyond.”
Chair of the council’s Education Resources Committee, Councillor Lynsey Hamilton, said: “Enhancing our young people’s knowledge and experience of expressive arts is extremely important, and I would like to thank the Clore Duffield Foundation for supporting St Columbkille’s by awarding this grant.”
Kate Bellamy, Director of the Clore Duffield Foundation said: “We are delighted to be working St Columbkille’s School to give all their children an excellent expressive arts education and to go on school trips that will bring learning alive and make lifelong memories.”
